The 2023 Honda Passport Is a Remarkably Athletic SUV

Although not a superstar in the midsize SUV segment, the new Honda Passport continues to be one of the crowd favorites on the market.

The 2023 Honda Passport offers compelling performance, style, and convenience, packaged in one midsize SUV. The new Passport exudes an athletic character with its bold exterior outfit and rugged-style tires and a punchy 3.5L V6 engine. It offers a spacious interior, off-road capability, decent fuel economy, and a suite of Honda’s safety and driver-assistance features standard on all Passport models.

While there is room for improvement, experts like Edmunds and Car and Drivers say that the 2023 Passport makes for an excellent all-around SUV with features that are hard to pass up.

How Capable is the 2023 Honda Passport?

The 2023 Passport offers a punchy acceleration and smooth on-road driving experience with its 280-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine tethered to a nine-speed automatic transmission. It offers a decent fuel economy of 21 mpg combined, 19 in the city and 24 on the highway.

The 2023 Passport is built for every adventure, on and off the road. It’s outfitted with a torque-vectoring AWD system, Honda’s Intelligent Traction Management, 4-Wheel Independent Suspension, and Rugged-Style Tires for handling tough roads. It also has 8.1 inches of ground clearance, enough to conquer rough terrains without tearing up the underside.

For those bringing a boat, trailer, or dirt bike on their next adventure, the 2023 Passport will tow them just fine with its 5,000 lbs towing capacity.

How Comfortable is the 2023 Honda Passport?

The 2023 Passport looks fit on the outside but incredibly spacious on the inside. It has a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat and wide and comfortable front seats with an adjustable armrest. It also has a roomy backseat that allows the Passport to comfortably fit five passengers with nearly as much legroom, shoulder room, and hip room as the front seats.

The interior isn’t the most luxurious you’ll see but it’s made of excellent materials and has accessible controls. We love the intricate, diamond-perforations in the Passport with high-contrast stitching that stands out.

The 2023 Passport is also equipped with Tri-zone Climate Control that allows you to set different temperatures for yourself, the front passenger, and the rear passengers. This is a really clever feature for providing personalized comfort and greater convenience.

Trim Levels

The 2023 Honda Passport offers three models: the base EX-L, the off-road TrailSport, and the range-topping Elite model. The 3.5L V6 engine is standard on all Passport models tethered to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

A 3.5-liter V6 engine (280 horsepower, 262 lb-ft of torque) is standard, and it's paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The EX-L comes with FWD but it can be optioned with the available AWD, standard on the TrailSport and Elite trims.

All Passport houses a user-friendly 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It also has a wireless phone pad, Bluetooth, available Wi-Fi hotspot, and HondaLink. You can also charge your outdoor gear on the go with the Passport’s 12V power outlets and 115V power outlet standard on the TrailSport and Elite models.

Honda Sensing Suite, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and forward-collision warning are standard on all Passport models.

Which Honda Passport Has the Best Value?

The EX-L model fits most budgets and is recommended by experts like Edmunds and Car and Driver. Although the EX-L is the Passport’s base model, it’s already equipped with plenty of standard features and can be optioned with the All-Wheel Drive system.

While well-equipped, the EX-L can’t meet all your needs. If you want a more off-road oriented Passport, you’ll be happier with the TrailSport model. Key features of the TrailSport include an AWD system, Intelligent Traction Management with different modes, a power tailgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, and roof rails.

For high-end features, buy the Elite model and enjoy the best of what the Passport has to offer.
